Joey Allen – Named Honorary Alumnus of Distinction, UMASS

For his outstanding service on the University of Massachusetts Amherst Food Science Advisory Board, Joey Allen has been awarded a certificate naming him Honorary Alumnus of Distinction. Steve Goodwin, Dean, Professor Fergus Clydesdale, PhD, Tom Hastings, Department Development Office, Rick Robar, Senior Associate Director of Development and Cleve Willis, Former Dean of the College of Natural Resources and the Environment attended the presentation.

The food science department in the College of Natural Resources and the Environment has two key missions:

  1. To educate students in the interdisciplinary field of food processing or for careers in the most exciting research area in industry and academics.

  2. To study and to apply science and technology to add value to foods and related products; to foster economic development; and to provide a safe, healthful and high-quality food supply.

The visionary advisory board at the public research university is mounting a campaign to build a Center for Research in Health & Wellness that will give scientists, educators businesses and governments around the globe a resource for finding solutions to food-related health issues.
